José Martín Cáceres Silva born April 7 1987 in Montevideo is a Uruguayan professional footballer who plays for Sevilla FC, on loan from FC Barcelona, in La Liga. His primary position is central defender, but has also featured at right or left back.

Club career
Defensor Sporting
Cáceres started his career in his homeland of Uruguay with Defensor Sporting, at a young age Cáceres became a regular of the first team. During the 200 2007 season, his lone first team season, with the club, he made 26 first team appearances scoring four goals. Following his impressive performances, he transferred to the Spanish La Liga with Villarreal CF.
Villarreal CF
In July 2007, Cáceres transferred to Villarreal CF in Spain, but was immediately sent out on loan to Recreativo de Huelva.
Recreativo Huelva
Cáceres transferred to Recreativo Huelva in August 2007, just prior to the 2007–08 season, where he continued to play as a defender for the Andalusia side. On January 9, 2008, Cáceres scored a vital goal against Villarreal CF, the team that owned his rights, in a Copa del Rey match, which Recreativo won Following an impressive first season in Spain, where the player played nearly 40 official matches, and scored 4 goals, Cáceres returned to Villarreal, but was instantly sold to Spanish and European giants FC Barcelona. He left without ever playing a match for Villarreal CF.
FC Barcelona
Cáceres joined FC Barcelona on June 4, 2008, with a reported transfer fee of 16.5 million being paid to Villarreal. A buyout clause of €50 million was included in the deal, which runs through the end of the 2012 season Cáceres featured only sparsely during his first season at FC Barcelona due to both injury, and coaches choice. Even after his recovery, he was the fourth choice defender, behind the Catalan captain Carles Puyol, Rafael Márquez and Gerard Piqué. He picked up the first club trophy of his career as FC Barcelona defeated Athletic Bilbao in the 2009 Copa del Rey final. A few days later, his former club Villarreal CF defeated Real Madrid C.F. which meant that Barcelona had won the league. The 2009 10 season began well for Cáceres as he made a goal-scoring Serie A debut, scoring the opening goal in a 2–0 win against Lazio. Under Ciro Ferrara, he started well but unfortunately, his season was disrupted by a number of injuries and was ruled out for several months after picking up an injury in January.
